For more information on assessment,

Student's Guide to Assessment in TAFE NSW" which is available on the TAFE internet site at:
ASSESSMENT BRIEFS
Your teacher will give you individual
written briefs (rubrics) for each assessment including information about the
nature of the project, requirements how your work will be assessed, presented
and deadlines for completion. It is in your interest to carefully read this
information. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to secure a copy of
the brief (download from the design centre blog for from Dexter). You will need
to complete all rubric requirements to gain a satisfactory result.
DEADLINES
If you are late presenting evidence for your assessment , you
should contact your teacher immediately and explain the reason giving evidence,
(Medical Certificate, for example.) Depending on the circumstances, your
teacher may accept your assessment task late, or allow you to submit the
evidence at a later date.
EXTENSIONS
Extensions must be negotiated with your
teacher in advance of the due date. No extensions will be given on the due day
of submission, except in extreme circumstances beyond the control of the
student. Medical Certificates will only cover you for the dates specified on
that certificate.
RESUBMISSION
If a student receives a mark below 50%,
or is deemed "Not Yet
competent", there may be
an opportunity to resubmit the project for assessment after consultation with
your teacher.
ASSESSMENT ITEM COVER SHEET
A signed and completed Assessment Item
Cover Sheet must be included with every assessment submission. This sheet
states that you understand the conditions of assessment.
PROVISION FOR REASONABLE ADJUSTMENT
Assessment instructions will be given
verbally and in writing. Assessment instructions are to be given by
demonstration, according to individual needs. Where necessary, the work station
may be modified. Where necessary and by negotiation with the teacher, extra
time may be allowed to suit learners with disabilities.
EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
Employability skills are an integral
aspect of all qualifications and units of competence. See the following page
for a full description.
RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)
A student that has completed previous
study may be eligible for recognition via a direct credit transfer. Students
that have attained a certain level of ability through work/life experiences may
also have this recognised.
COURSE RESULTS
Your Transcript of Academic Record lists
all your results in your course(s) to date. Some units in a course are GRADED.
Some unit are UNGRADED.
GRADED UNITS
Your unit result will be recorded and
reported to you as Distinction or Credit or Competent or Not Yet
Competent. If you are doing this
unit a part of a course which is graded (Pass, Credit or Distinction) and this is
one of the units which contribute to the course grade your result in this unit
will be assigned a nominal mark which will be used to calculate your course
grade.
To obtain a result you must satisfy all
of the performance criteria for competence.
UNGRADED UNITS
Upon completion of this unit you will
receive a transcript denoting Achieved Competency (AC) or Not Yet Competent
(NC).
To obtain an ACHIEVED COMPETENCY result
for a unit you must satisfy all of the performance criteria for that unit of competence.
MARKING STANDARDS FOR GRADED UNITS
The following marking descriptions can
be used for general feedback and a guideline for student results. Cut off marks
may vary per unit.
83 - 100%

Learning outcomes have been addressed to
a very high level. Work is highly competent, demonstrates comprehensive
research and a deep understanding of design. Techniques are highly developed.
Professional presentation, outstanding effort and high quality submission. Demonstration
of excellent technical capability, professional design awareness and very
original and creative thinking.
71 - 82%

Learning outcomes have been addressed to
a substantial level. Work shows good competence, sufficient research and a
significant understanding of design, but there is still room for growth.

submission. Demonstration of good technical capability, definite design
awareness and some original creative thinking
50 - 70% COMPETENCE
(acceptable/developing level of
competence)

adequate submission. Demonstration of growing technical capability, some design
awareness and developing original and creative thinking.
0 - 49% NOT YET COMPETENT
(not acceptable level of competence)
Response is not to an acceptable level
and learning outcomes have not been addressed. Work shows a lack of competence,
